Where to Travel for Recreational Marijuana in the United States

Do you happen to live in a state where recreational marijuana usage is still illegal? This is a conundrum that many people across the country are facing today, as there are only a handful of states where it is possible to walk into a retail outlet and buy marijuana for your own recreation. However, this does not mean you are entirely out of luck. You can always take a vacation to one of these other states and enjoy not only all of the great things that the state has to offer, but also the legal marijuana.

In the past, people would actually go overseas to places like Amsterdam to do this. Now, traveling to a place where marijuana is legal is easier and more affordable than ever. Let’s look at how you can do this and have a great time. First, we will look at some states where it is now legal. You are in luck because, there are some pretty great states that now have legal marijuana, and you would probably want to visit them even without the prospect of getting high!

Where Is Recreational Marijuana Legal?

Today, you can enjoy marijuana legally and for your own pleasure in eight states around the country. These states include AK, CA, OR, WA, NV, CO, MA, and ME. Take a moment to consider all of the fantastic things there are to do in those states. You can visit Boston, spend some time exploring Los Angeles or San Francisco, go hiking in Colorado or Oregon, and do some gambling in Nevada. These states are already prime territories for those who like to travel, so you can plan for more than just a vacation focused around marijuana… unless that’s exactly what you want.

Know the Laws of the State You Are Visiting

One of the most important things to consider when you are visiting another state is the laws they have in place regarding marijuana. You need to know what is and is not legal. For example, even though recreational marijuana use is legal in California, this does not mean you can walk down the street with a joint in your hand. It still needs to be consumed in a proper location. In addition, things such as driving while under the influence is also going to be illegal.

Use your common sense, but also make sure you are looking up the laws before you go so you know what you can and cannot do. Also, be sure the regulations and laws you are looking up are the latest ones on the book, as laws are subject to change over the years.

Don’t Bring It Home

One of the things you can certainly not do is try to bring some home with you. Sure, there is the temptation to buy some weed and then bring it on back home, but it is only going to lead to trouble. Whether you are flying or driving, there is a very good chance you will be caught, and it is illegal to do so. Do not try to send it through the mail either.

Instead, just start planning your next vacation. Maybe you can come back to the same state, or perhaps you will find a different state to visit the next time. You might even find that you like one of these locations enough that you want to move there.

Plan Plenty of Fun Things to Do, Cannabis Related and Otherwise

When you are traveling, if you want to have a good time and enjoy the cannabis while you are there, you need to know where to go. Even before you book your vacation to Nevada, California, or wherever you decide to choose, you will want to take a step back and think about the overall type of vacation you want to have.

What are some of the places that you might like to visit and experience? Maybe you want to do some people watching on Venice Beach, or you would like to explore the mountains of Colorado. Think about what you might like to do and enjoy, and then narrow down your selection of states.

Once you know where you want to do, it’s time for you to start researching more about the cannabis situation in those cities that appeal to you. Check to see what retail outlets are available in the area and check out their sites to learn more about what they have to offer, their hours, FAQs, and more. You should also feel free to call those places with any questions that you might have regarding making a purchase. For example, you might want to make sure they will accept an out of state license. This should not be any different than buying alcohol in another state, so do not worry, but ask any questions you need that will put you at ease.

You could also consider visiting a state when they have a marijuana related event or convention. Colorado has World Cannabis Week in April each year, and that tends to be a fun and interesting event where you can enjoy music, food, and you get to meet other people who have some of the same interests you have.

Always think about who else will be accompanying you on the trip and be sure to remember to work on planning the trip and what you want to do. If you have some friends or family who are not as enthusiastic about the cannabis aspect of the trip, that’s fine. Just make sure you each have some time to enjoy what you want to do.

Where Will You Go?

You have options on either coast, and you can find a vacation spot that has just what you want from it, whether it’s the beauty and majesty of Alaska or the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. There’s something for everyone, and best of all, there’s going to be some marijuana, too!
